Obama’s nomination stains credibility of Nobel Prize by: Joseph Gasser

The Nobel Peace Prize was established in 1901 as a way to recognize the few individuals who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better, safer and more peaceful environment for everyone. The prize is awarded to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” Given the lofty requisites for this honor, the audible gasps from the Norwegian crowd after the announcement naming President Barack Obama as the 2009 recipient are understandable.

President’s petition to Olympic committee a waste of time by: Joseph Gasser

Last Friday, President Obama and his wife flew to Copenhagen, Denmark to address the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and lobby on behalf of Chicago for the 2016 Olympic Games. The entire trip was a mistake, perhaps costing the Obamas’ home city the opportunity to host the games.

Cheaper health care would discourage budding doctors by: Ben Tarr

President Obama has launched a vigorous but misguided initiative to expand health care coverage in America. He wants every American to have access to high quality health insurance. To accomplish this, he wants to lower the costs of insurance plans so that more Americans can afford it. According to the president’s official Web site, he hopes to couple this with a new initiative to “promote scientific and technological advancements.”
